Riverside Health Care is a fully accredited multi-site, multi-faceted health care system providing service to the Rainy River District in spectacular Northwestern Ontario. Our health care sites across the District serve a catchment area of over 20,000 residents in 15,500 square kilometers in the following communities:

Each community is also served by Riverside Community Counselling which provides mental health and addictions services and Valley Diabetes Education Centre which provides important chronic disease management programming.
Reporting to a volunteer, skills-based board of outstanding community representatives, Riverside Health Care employs over 500 staff; and works with 14 dedicated local physicians and over 30 consulting/visiting specialists, dentists and nurse practitioners.
Riverside Health Care operates with the exceptional and generous support of the Auxiliaries at each site and Riverside Foundation for Health Care.
Formal academic relationships exist with Lakehead University, McMaster University, Northern Ontario School of Medicine, University of Toronto (Bloomberg School of Nursing), Cambrian College, Conestoga College, Confederation College, Sault College and St. Lawrence College.
Riverside’s Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) preparedness efforts began in early January 2020 and our emergency planning, outbreak management and infection control teams have been implementing a host of proactive precautionary actions across our organization to ensuring the health and safety of those we serve. We remain diligent in protecting our staff, patients, residents, clients, physicians, volunteers and visitors through rigorous infection and prevention controls, while actively following the latest guidelines from Health Canada, the Ontario Ministry of Health and our local Northwestern Public Health Unit. Riverside has taken the following actions and we are continuously adapting our preparedness to the evolving situation.

Riverside’s COVID-19 Assessment Centre’s (assessment centre) are by appointment only. For safety reasons, “walk in” appointments are strictly prohibited.

Visitor Screening Guidelines
Screening for COVID-19 at all Riverside facility entrances is currently in effect. Screening follows Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care guidelines. Everyone will be screened before being allowed to enter a Riverside facility.
As of March 14, 2022 the following Covid-19 screening and testing requirements for visitors are in place:
The Ontario government, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, is taking further action to protect the health and safety of residents, staff and from COVID-19 and the Omicron variant. This is necessary to provide optimal safety and support while balancing the mental and emotional well-being of patients, residents and their families, and to safeguard the staff who are critical to providing care.
Accordingly, Riverside Health Care (RHC) has likewise adjusted its COVID-19 visitation requirements for Long Term Care (Rainycrest), Acute Care (LaVerendrye Hospital –LVGH) and combined Long Term Care and Acute Care (Emo Health Centre and Rainy River Health Centre)
Visitor and Vaccination Requirements
General Visitors and Caregivers Proof of COVID-19 vaccination status must be shown to be considered vaccinated. Long-term care sites:
Acute care sites:
Up to four (4) fully vaccinated visitors at a time will be allowed entry (includes caregivers). Fullly vaccinated means: the full series of a COVID-19 vaccine authorized by Health Canada, or any combination of such vaccines, OR one or two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine not authorized by Health Canada, followed by one dose of a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine authorized by Health Canada, OR three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine not authorized by Health Canada.

Acute Care:
For these exempted cases, a negative rapid antigen test will be required prior to visiting, if unvaccinated.
Rapid Antigen Testing Requirements All sites will require all staff, contract staff, students, volunteers and caregivers/general visitors to have a negative rapid antigen test regardless of vaccination status.
Rainycrest Long Term Care Caregivers and Acute Care (LVGH) ALC Caregivers please call the COVID-19 Assessment Centre at 807-274-3261 ext 4913 to book regular appointments for rapid antigen tests.
Emo Health Centre and Rainy River Health Centre will provide rapid antigen testing onsite when you present for your visit.
General Visitors tests can be completed at the site you are visiting or by appointment at the Covid-19 Assessment Centre. Please note very limited capacity for testing on Sundays at Rainycrest.
With this new process there could be a delay in the screening process to accommodate rapid antigen testing, please be patient and respectful as we adjust to this new process.
Rapid antigen testing is not required for those registering for care or appointments.
