Triage
Triage is the process of determining the priority of patients' treatments based on the severity of their condition — which isn't always obvious to those in our waiting rooms. Our sites follow the Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale, a standardized triage process as defined by the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians, to ensure the right priority and treatment is being given to the right patient at the right time.
Our triage nurses will talk with you about your illness or injury, assess your condition and may start some tests. Let them know about any pre-existing medical conditions, any medications you are taking and any allergies.
Your wait will depend how many others are waiting for care, how sick they are and how sick you are. Due to the unpredictable needs and severity of medical conditions of other patients, it's impossible to predict a wait time. But if your condition changes while you wait, please inform the triage nurse as quickly as possible.
