Gastrointestinal Outbreak Declared on West Wing of Rainycrest Long Term Care Home
October 02, 2026
Riverside
Health Care, in conjunction with the Northwestern Health Unit, have declared a
gastrointestinal outbreak on the West Wing of Rainycrest Long Term Care Home.
Enhanced
infection prevention and control measures have been implemented to help limit
the spread of illness and protect residents, staff and visitors.
During
the outbreak, visitation on the West Wing is restricted to two (2) individuals
per resident, with visits taking place in residents’ rooms rather than common
areas. Visitors are asked to follow all posted instructions, including hand
hygiene and any additional infection prevention and control measures in place. To
help limit the potential spread of illness, visitors entering the West Wing are
asked to avoid visiting other wings or areas of the Home during the same visit.
Riverside
urges all visitors to self-screen before entering the facility and to refrain
from visiting if they are experiencing any symptoms of illness.
Restrictions
are also in place for admissions, transfers, discharges and social activities
on the affected wing until further notice.
Riverside’s
Outbreak Management Team continues to closely monitor the situation and will
adjust measures as appropriate in consultation with the Northwestern Health
Unit.
We
appreciate the understanding and cooperation of residents, families, visitors
and the community as we work to reduce the spread of illness and protect those
in our care.
