Riverside Reinforces Commitment to Resident Safety 

Riverside Health Care is reaffirming its commitment to the safety, dignity, and well-being of those entrusted to its care following recent developments concerning allegations of abuse at Rainycrest Long Term Care Home.

In June, Riverside conducted a comprehensive internal investigation into allegations of abuse involving staff members and residents of the home. The investigation followed standard protocols, which included immediately notifying the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). Riverside takes all allegations of abuse, whether real or perceived, extremely seriously. It is our understanding that these issues are now before the Court. 

Riverside deeply regrets when the experience of any of our residents is not consistent with our commitment to providing high-quality care. To the residents involved and their families, we offer our most sincere apology.

In addition to fully cooperating with law enforcement and following our investigation, Riverside launched a comprehensive review to ensure every measure is being taken to provide quality care to all individuals. This included a thorough evaluation of our policies, procedures, and safeguards. Additional measures were implemented to strengthen protections and oversight. Staff training was enhanced to reinforce the importance of recognizing, preventing, and reporting abuse. Training also emphasized encouraging staff to come forward promptly should they be aware of any concerns or witness anything inappropriate. Creating a supportive environment where staff feel empowered to raise concerns is a critical part of Riverside’s commitment to accountability. Transparency and decisive action are being prioritized to ensure such incidents are prevented in the future.

Support is being provided to all residents, their families, and our staff affected by this situation. Riverside remains committed to being open and transparent with everyone involved, ensuring questions and concerns are addressed promptly and thoughtfully.
