REPORTS TO (Title):

Manager, Housing

The Housing department has an opening for a Full Time Interim Residential Program Worker.The successful candidate must be able to meet the normal requirements of the job and possess the following qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY:

  •        A degree, diploma or one year certificate in health or social services; or equivalent combination of education, training and work experience acceptable to the employer;
  •        First Aid\CPR, Non Violent Crisis Intervention, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training ASIST);
  •       Experience in Psychosocial Rehabilitation is an asset;
  •       Experience in the emotional, physical, social and spiritual needs of tenants; individuals living with a mental illness, physical and\or developmental challenge, older adults;
  •       Knowledge of local community social services and programs;
  •       Working knowledge of computer software (word, email, internet, power point, data base, excel);
  •       Available to work on a full rotation which may include shift work, weekends and statutory holidays;
  •       Ability to work independently as well as in a team;
  •       Understands and maintains confidentiality;
  •       Familiar with Occupational Health and Safety worker rights and responsibilities.
  •       Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills;
  •       Demonstrated strong interpersonal skill with the ability to function effectively independently, within a team, with front line personnel , and management;
  •       Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast paced healthcare environment with excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize workload;
  •       Dependable with a verifiable acceptable attendance record;
  •       Proven ability to perform the essential duties of the position on a regular basis.

BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 1   . Develop individual formal and informal community support networks for tenants using the most appropriate services, personnel and resources that can be located or developed.
  • 2.    Assist in the integration of Tenants into the community.
  • 3.    Encourage Tenant involvement in the operation of the building and a supportive community among tenants.
  • 4.    Assist Tenant develop self-esteem, coping skills, daily living skills, and problem-solving abilities.
  • 5.    Assist in arranging follow-up services for residents and encourage compliance with therapeutic regimes.

            SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1.  1.        Attend tenant meetings to promote support and decision making in the building community and building operations.
  2.  2.        Carry out the emergency procedures of the program until appropriate resources are engaged.
  3.  3.         Assist tenants in establishing individual and/or group goals by providing support, stability and opportunities for growth and learning.
  4.  4.        Assist in the establishment of individual and program routines (ie.life skills\activities of daily living; teaching and monitoring (meals, laundry, budgeting, cooking, household chores etc.).
  5.  5.     Assist in the orientation of new tenants to the building community.
  6.  6.        Assist the selection committee in the tenant’s selection process. Participate in waitlist management.
  7.  7.        Act as a resource person, striving to enhance or increase each individual resident's awareness of themselves and others and, how to make appropriate decisions in regard to their welfare.
  8.  8.        Communicate and advocate for tenants health concerns to the appropriate health care provider and other community agencies.
  9.  9.        Assist tenants to be mobile when necessary.
  10.  10.      Promote effective communication skills among tenants to facilitate supporting each other through difficult experiences.
  11.  11.      Utilize effective interpersonal techniques to assist individuals in crises.
  12.  12.      Promote tenants effective decision making skills and assumption of responsibilities with respect to goal setting; monitor and document the progress of tenants towards accomplishments of agreed upon goals.
  13.  13     . Familiarize tenants with community resources and help them to learn to use community facilities appropriately.
  14.  14.      Maintain contact and collaborate with other healthcare and support professionals, and tenants' family as applicable.
  15.  15     . Contribute to the constructive communication process between the program and the community.
  16.  16.      Utilize and work with other support services including professional, paraprofessional and lay persons whenever possible for continuity of care for individual served; coordinate and participate in case conferences.
  17.  17.      Assist with overseeing the physical maintenance of the building and ensure any deficiencies are reported in the prescribed manner; participate in general upkeep of building as needed and when required; cleaning, minor repairs.
  18.  18     . Participate in the assessment, intake and admission of applicants and tenants.
  19.  19     . Conduct informal assessments; suicide\self harm risk, safety risk, home safety
  20.  20     . Oversee collection of tenant's rent as directed by the Supportive Housing Manager; participate in rent review as required.
  21.  21     . Report to the Supportive Housing Manager for regular supervision and instruction.
  22.  22.      Attend regular staff meetings to co-ordinate case management and confer on other issues relating to building operation and maintenance.
  23.  23.    Assist in ensuring program and building meets standards of neighbourhood and community.
  24.  24.      Assist in the implementation and evolution of policies, procedures, goals and objectives and related operations of the program and the building.
  25.  25     . Maintain individual tenants case notes, files and other records and statistical information.
  26.  26     . Assist in the orientation and training of new personnel.
  27.  27.      As much as possible be aware of any major medical risks and medications of tenants. Provide support to tenant in related health issue and medication management.
  28.  28.     Support the Transitional Worker and Community Service Management Worker in times of crisis or absence or as dictated.
  29.  29.     Carry out all work assignments safely and be knowledgeable of and in compliance with relevant regulations, policies and procedures.
  30.  30.      Participate in the Quality Improvement Activities and Accreditation as required.
  31.  31.      Perform other duties as assigned by the Supportive Housing Manager or designate.

RESPONSIBLE TO:

Manager, Non Profit Supportive Housing

  •      Salary as per Union Schedule
  •      This position could possibly work days, evenings, weekends and holidays

POSITION AVAILABLE:

  •      This Full-Time Interim position will commence August 25, 2025 and end February 28, 2027
