JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager, the Medical Radiation Technologist (MRT) in Diagnostic Imaging performs medical imaging procedures to aid in patient diagnosis or treatment within the regulatory standards of practice. Delivery of patient care and professional practice is consistent with the scope of practice of the MRT as defined by the College of Medical Radiation Technologist of Ontario (CMRITO), the Philosophy and Values of the Hospital and the policies and procedures of the Hospital.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  •  Registered MRT(R), CMRITO/C.A.M.R.T
  •  CT experience or willing to be trained
  •  Proficient in computer database applications, ie HIS/RIS,PACS
  •  Professional attitude and conduct towards patients and staff
  •  Familiar with Occupational Health & Safety Workers’ rights and responsibilities
  •  Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills
  •  Demonstrated strong interpersonal skill with the ability to function effectively independently, within a team, with front line personnel, and management
  •  Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment with excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize workload.
  •  Dependable with a verifiable acceptable attendance record
  •  Proven ability to perform the essential duties of the position on a regular basis

 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs high quality diagnostic images
  • Adheres to the As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) principle
  • Use available equipment while incorporating policies and best practices in radiology to performing exams and documentation
  • Must be available for a regular rotation of on-call and weekends and provide coverage for vacation, sick leave etc.
  • Willingness to travel between RHC sites as required.
  • Work independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Must treat all information concerning patient affairs or illnesses and/or hospital business as confidential, privileged information, which must never be discussed except in the course of duty.

 

 

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

 

  •  Perform radiographic examinations using both stationary and portable equipment in all patient care areas of the hospital.
  •  Perform examinations in areas of specialization including mammography, special procedures and CT.
  •  After a sufficient training period the technologist may commence duties in these areas of specialization: 
  •         - The technologist will be responsible to the Manager and Radiologist for the quality of work performed in these areas.
  •         - Quality control and quality management will be frequently monitored and reported on by the technologist to the Manager who will take appropriate action.
  •         - Quality management will be maintained in accordance with the goals and objectives of the organization and department and regular reports will be provided for the Manager to be presented to the Quality Council.
  •         - Records and files for these areas will be maintained by the Quality Management Co-ordinator for the department
  • Replenish x-ray and CT rooms with appropriate supplies.. 
  • Portering of patients and assisting with ultrasound procedures when able.
  • Report equipment malfunction immediately to the Manager, Diagnostic Imaging.
  • Performs all work assignments safely and be knowledgeable of and in compliance with relevant regulations, policies and procedures. (ie. Occupational Health and Safety Act).
  • Participate when required with quality management and quality control programs.
  • A Technologist may be asked to assume responsibilities of a particular area within the department.
  • Such other duties as may be designated from time to time by the Manager, Diagnostic Imaging.
