JOB DESCRIPTION

QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY:

  • A high school diploma or the equivalent is required. Business education is preferred
  • Keyboarding and adding machine skills are required
  • Experience/training in computer operation is preferred
  • A valid Ontario drivers license is required
  • Ability to effectively speak, read and write the English language
  • Numerical ability to perform the arithmetic computations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and apply Hospital storage and distribution procedures
  • Good clerical aptitudes, accuracy, and productivity
  • Dependable, competent and continued ability to carry out responsibilities
  • Co-operative and tactful with good interpersonal relationships
  • Previous experience in a Materials Management Department is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Physically capable of performing the essential duties of the job including:

  • Ability to perform medium to heavy work requiring the lifting of items up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, and upwards of 100 pounds on occasion;
  • Possess good eye-hand-finger co-ordination and manual dexterity to operate clerical machines
  • Good visual acuity to read information and a good field of vision when searching for articles in storage areas
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, reach, and handle objects.

BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To receive, store, and accurately issue all items stored in inventory (stock), and to receive and accurately distribute direct purchase items (non stock).
  2. To process all out-going shipments of supplies, equipment, lab specimens, courier correspondence, etc.
  3. To handle all in-house printing and copying of forms.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  1. To receive, inspect, verify, and accept or reject (in consultation with immediate supervisor) all supplies and equipment delivered to the hospital. This includes accurate processing of all necessary paperwork / documentation, such as Packing Slips, Bills of Lading, Receiving Reports, etc., so that payment can be authorized.
  2. To prepare all items for shipment complete with documentation including Return Advise forms, Bills of Lading, etc., and coordinating this with the user department and the Director of Materials Management.
  3. To fill weekly and emergency stock requisitions by picking items from storage shelf / area and loading on carts for delivery. Also, to accurately prepare and/or process all inventory documentation concerned with distribution of supplies including stock requisitions, Issue Reports, Return-to-Stock Credits, etc.
  4. To maintain a neat, clean work environment.
  5. To place into storage incoming inventory items utilizing good storage distribution techniques including: proper location, rotation, identification, documentation, and organization.
  6. To maintain neat and accurate files.
  7. To operate copying/duplicating machines, paper cutter, and hole punch to produce hospital forms and general printing requirements maintaining forms control master file, and an adequate supply of processed forms for use as required.
  8. To participate in the department Quality Management Program.
  9. To carry out all work assignments safely and be knowledgeable of, and in compliance with, relevant regulations and acts including: Occupational Health and Safety Act; WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, CSA, etc.
  10.  To perform other duties as may be assigned by the Manager, Materials Management.

RESPONSIBLE TO:

This Casual position is responsible to the Supply Chain Supervisor.

  • Salary as per Union Schedule

CURRENT ASSIGNMENT:

  • This Casual position may be required to work Monday – Friday (0700 – 1500).
