Riverside Health Care has a number of facilities that provide a range of services to meet the unscheduled and emergency healthcare needs for individuals of all ages across the Rainy River District.

  • La Verendrye General Hospital has a full-service Emergency Department offering around-the-clock care, seven days a week
  • Rainy River Health Centre has a full-service Emergency Department offering 24-hour care on a daily basis
  • Emo Health Centre's Urgent Care department provides emergency care from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect in the ED?

Triage: Upon arrival a triage nurse will speak to you about your illness or injury, assess your condition and may start some tests. Let the triage nurse know about any pre-existing medical conditions, any medications you are taking and any allergies.

At Registration: You will have to visit the Registration Desk to complete your patient record. Please have your health card ready.

While waiting: Patients are prioritized based on the severity of their conditions. The sicker patients are treated first. Your wait will depend how many other are waiting, how sick they are and how sick you are. Due to the unpredictable needs and severity of medical conditions of other patients, we are unable to give you a predicted wait time. If your condition changes while you wait, please inform the triage nurse.

What should I bring with me?

When coming to the Emergency Department, please bring:

  • Your Health Card
  • Emergency Contacts
  • A list of medications, medical history and known allergies

Why are patients who arrived after me being seen first?

The sickest patients are always seen first. Patients are assessed during triage based on medical need. All hospitals in Canada use the same tool to identify and prioritize patients based on five triage levels ranging from critical to non-urgent.

What happens when I go home?

When you are discharged, you will be given instructions to follow once you leave the hospital. You may also be given prescriptions for medicine and a follow-up appointment time with your doctor and/or other health care professionals. If you have not received any follow-up instructions or do not understand them please ask one of our staff members in the Emergency Department.

How can I provide feedback about my visit?

Your complaints, concerns and compliments are very important us to help us provide outstanding care at Windsor Regional Hospital. Please be assured, your concerns will always be kept confidential. You can also thank a staff member if you feel you received exceptional service. 

Why did I receive a bill?

You are responsible for payment of any amounts not covered by your insurance provider. Examples of services that are not insured by OHIP include:
