2016-17 Board Members:
Janice Beazley

Janice Beazley, Chair
Jan has been involved with Riverside's Board of Directors since June, 2013, and is currently the Chair.  She served as Vice-Chair for the 2014-2015 term.  She is a Certified Health Executive with 30 years of progressive experience in all aspects of governance, management and leadership.  Jan was also the Vice-Chair and Chair, respectively, of the Northwest Local Health Integration Network from June 2005 to August 2011.  Jan  also chaired the Board of Directors of the Rainy River Future Development Corporation from 2013 - 2017.  She brings a great many linkages with all health care organizations both provincially and within the Northwest, giving her the ability to recognize the needs of the area.  In her capacity as Chair, Jan is ex-officio on all RHC Board Committees, and currently chairs the Governance Committee.  Jan is also a member of the Ontario Hospital Association's Small, Rural and Northern Leadership Council. Prior to her governance commitments, Jan worked in various senior leadership positions in Fort Frances, from 1980 to 1998, and at Trillium Health Centre in Mississauga from 1998-2005.

 Cindy McKinnon

Cindy McKinnon

Cindy became a member of the Riverside Board of Directors in 2016.   Cindy is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  She also held a Certification in Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC) designation while she worked for Health Canada, FNIHB, as a Communicable Disease Coordinator (IPAC Program) for Ontario Region.   Cindy has extensive experience from the public health sector in the development, implementation, and management of various public health and infection control programs within the community.   Cindy brings a community perspective of health care to the Board of Directors.   She currently sits on the Quality Committee and Ethics Committee of the Riverside Health Care Facilities Board of Directors.

 Joanne Ogden

 

Joanne Ogden

Joanne joined the Board of Directors in 2016.  A previous employee of Riverside Health Care for almost 18 years, she also brings 10 years’ experience in First Nation Home Care and a vast knowledge of wound care. She is currently employed as a Community Health Nurse for Rainy River First Nations and Naicatchewenin First Nation.  She spent over 13 years being the clinical educator for the RPN program at Confederation College and is proud of the graduating RPNs the program produced.  She has spent time Volunteering in Haiti and Guatemala in outreach and is an active past President of Emo and District Lions club as well as being the current secretary for the club and 2nd Vice District Governor. She looks forward to assisting in anyway required to maintain an exceptional quality of healthcare in our district.  Joanne currently sits on the Board Nominating & Recruitment and the Board Governance Committee’s. 


 

Ted Scholten

Ted Scholten
Ted Scholten currently serves as the President & Chief Executive Officer of Riverside Health Care.  Originally from Saint John, NB, Ted possesses an undergraduate degree in occupational therapy from Dalhousie University and a Masters of Health Science from the University of Indianapolis.  Ted is a member of a number of professional associations, including the Indiana Hospital Association, IHA Brain Injury Association, and the Administration-Management section of the American Occupational Therapy Association.  He has also been involved in numerous community activities over the past 20 years.  Ted’s health administration career includes serving as Chief Operating Officer of the Rehabilitation Hospital of Fort Wayne (RHFW) Indiana, one of two free-standing facilities that are part of Community Health Systems. Prior to that, he held positions of increasing responsibility including Division Director of Inpatient Rehabilitation at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana and RHFW, Director of Clinical Services at the RHFW and Manager, Occupational Therapy at RHFW.  He was an adjunct professor in the University of St. Francis Occupational Therapy Assistant Program in Fort Wayne.  Ted is very familiar to the area as he owned an occupational therapy consulting services business in Fort Frances and was Riverside Health Care’s Director of Occupational Therapy from 1990 to 1995, where he planned, organized and directed Occupational Therapy services for the Rainy River District.


Lori Maki 

Lori Maki

Lori is the Vice President, Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Executive at Riverside Health Care. In her role as a senior leader, Lori oversees all clinical services areas as well as La Verendrye Non Profit Supportive Housing. She demonstrates a commitment to providing ongoing support to her management team and promoting evidence-informed inter professional practice across the corporation. She is responsible for on-going short and long-term planning for our patient care programs and services.Lori plays an active role in promoting and supporting the care experience through greater patient and family engagement and driving efforts to better meet patient needs.

   
 Donna McDonald Donna McDonald

Donna joined the Board of Directors in June 2014.  Donna is currently retired and resides in Rainy River.  Donna spent 34 years working in the medical laboratory profession as a Medical Laboratory Technologist, Laboratory Manager, and Laboratory Inspector for the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, Project Manager for computerized Laboratory Information Systems and Sales Representative for a laboratory equipment/supply company. Donna brings considerable clinical and project management experience and strong interpersonal skills to the Board.  Donna also sits on the Rainy River Hospital Auxiliary as the Treasurer.  Donna recognizes many of the health care needs in the area and looks forward to the opportunity to facilitate positive changes/improvements in the Riverside Health Care facilities.  Donna currently sits on the following Riverside Board Committees:  Quality and Ethics Team.

 Viktor Nowak Viktor Nowak

 Vik joined the Riverside Board of Directors in June 2015.  Vik has been a resident of the district of Rainy River since 1979 when he began his career as a social worker for Family and Children’s Services (FACS).  He remained with the organization until his retirement in 2013.  During his 34 years with FACS/CFS, Vik assumed several positions including: Child Abuse Worker, Supervisor/Team Leader, Human Resource Coordinator, Children’s Mental Health and Developmental Services Manager, Director of Clinical and Community Services as well as the Executive Director of the organization for approximately nine years.  Aside from the varied clinical and management experiences acquired from these positions, Vik also spearheaded several major service planning, policy/procedure and quality assurance initiatives.  Prior to retirement, he developed the ministry approved amalgamation plan with Kenora District Child and Family Services as was responsible for coordinating its successful implementation.  Vik is also a member of the Fort Frances Committee of Adjustments, the Non-Profit Housing Committee, and is on the Kenora-Rainy River Districts Child and Family Services Board.  He currently sits on the following Riverside Board Committees: Ethics Committee and Board Nominating/Recruitment Committee.


Dr. Lorena Jenks  
Dr. Lorena Jenks

Dr. Lorena Jenks has joined the Board of Directors as President of the Medical Staff.  Dr. Jenks has been a member of the Medical Staff of Riverside Health Care since 1990.  She has held various medical staff positions but her main interests lie in Obstetrics and Paediatrics.  Dr. Jenks is currently the Co-Chair of the MOREOB (Managing Obstetrical Risk Efficiently) Core Team.  Dr. Jenks is a Graduate of Queens University, where she obtained her MD in 1985.  She did her internship in Internal Medicine at Queens from 1985-86 and Residency in Family Medicine also at Queens in 1988-90.  Besides Fort Frances, Dr. Jenks and her husband Dr. John Nelson worked in Ear Falls, Ontario form 1986-88 and provided physician services in Emo, Ontario in 1990-91.

Douglas Robinson 

Douglas Robinson

Doug has been on the Board of Directors since 2013.  He is recently retired.  Prior to his retirement in December 2012, he was the President and CEO of the Northern Lights Credit Union and brings with him extensive financial, risk management and business management experience.  Doug recognizes the health care needs in this area as he previously sat on the Board of Directors of the Dryden Regional Health Centre in several different capacities.  He is excited to be provided with the opportunity to continue to give back to our communities in Emo, Fort Frances and Rainy River.  Doug currently sits on the following Riverside Board committees:  Board Audit & Finance, Board Nominating/Recruitment Committee and the Fiscal Advisory Committee.


Craig Sanders

Craig has been involved with the Riverside Board of Directors since 1996, serving three terms (9 years) both as a board member and as Board Chair.  He then returned to the board in 2007 as a board member.  Craig is the owner of a grocery store and brings considerable financial knowledge and experience to the board.  Craig has a good grasp of the health care needs in this area and assists in ensuring the board maintains best practices.  He currently sits on the following Riverside Board Committees:  Board Audit & Finance, Board Governance and the Riverside Foundation for Health Care.

Shanna Weir
 

Shanna Weir

Shanna has been involved with the Riverside Board of Directors since March 2013 as a board member.  She is the Executive Director of the Gizhewaadiziwin Health Access Centre and has experience in developing, implementing and delivering services for the Mental Health Program at the Health Access Centre.  Shanna has a strong background of the health care needs in this area and brings with her experience in legal and court work, policy development and project management.  Shanna currently sits on the following Riverside Board Committees:  Ethics Team and the Quality Committee.
