Donor Recognition

The Policy and practice of providing recogniton to donors for their gifts through formal and
informal, personal and public expressions of appreciation.

Who is Honored:

The Donor recogniton policy is in place to honor all individuals, corporations, service clubs,
community organizations and philanthropic foundations who make monetary or gift-in-kind
donations to Riverside Foundation for Health care. Donations made in memory recognize,
with honor, the name of a loved one who has died.

Benefactor....$100,000 and up

What constitutes a donation:

The following are recognizable gifts:

1. Gifts of Cash

2. In memoriam funds

3. Gifts-in-kind (i.e. goods or services) are recognized for their market value.

4. Pledges are recognized for their annual payment only. The total amount
pledged is recognized in the year that the final payment is received.

5. Life Insurance is recognized for the amount of policy payments as they
accumulate until the policy is paid (where the policy is paid in full, the
donor is recognized for the entire value of the life insurance).

6. Bequests are recognized when they are received. Donors who wish to
receive recognition for bequest-type contributions are encouraged to
establish a non-revocable trust or some other form of non-revocable
planned gift.

7. Other Non-Revocable Planned Gifts - Planned gifts, usually considered
to be gifts from capital, rather than from income, certified cultural
property and deferred gifts are recognized for the value of the gift on the
day that it is legally transferred to Riverside Foundation for Health
Care providing the terms of the flaned gift contract identify it as a
non-revocable gift. (Specifics of planned gifts are identified under a
separate policy.)

Purpose of Recognition

1. To Acknowledge receipt of gift, its size and intent
2. To Express gratitude for support
3. To Continue to cultivate awareness of the Foundation's programs and services.
4. To keep the Foundation's name in front of donors at times other than during fundraising campaigns.
5. To recognize donors publicly.
6. To inform donors of their peers in giving.
7. To raise the sights of other prospects and donors by example.
8. To build the case for future gifts.

Other Recognition

Other recognition may be given as deemed appropriate and recommended by the Foundation Board.
Some examples may include.

A) An inscription placed on a piece of equipment purchased by the donor.
B) A plaque placed on the door of a room furnished by the donor.
C) A wing named after a major donor.

Donor Walls:

A Donor Recognition Wall will be located at each of the three health care facilities in Emo, Fort Frances,
and Rainy River. Donor names will be placed on the wall in the applicable category, as noted about, at
the donor's preferred location. The Donor Recognition Walls will be updated twice a year, in January
and June.

In Memoriams:

The Foundation will establish in memoriam funds as requested. The person donating the funds will receive an income tax receipt along with a thank-you letter acknowledging that the family has been notified of the donation in the form of a letter stating the collective total of the memorial funds donated (Individual amounts will be kept confidential). The family will be consulted if a request is made concerning any particular item to be purchased in memoriam.

If the in memoriam fund reaches $500.00 or more, a listing is added to the Donor Recognition Wall in memory of the person who is dead.
